SHIVA THE DESTROYER |
Drifting off in the refuge of my 4th story Mumbai shoebox I have to grin at my feet hanging over the beds end. With Rusty alongside there is only enough floor space for the resident ‘wrigglies’. In a final test of endurance on the sub continent, this afternoon I had shifted my belongings upwards in half story intervals, a few bags at a time. To leave anything unattended on the street would be to part ways with it. The last floor of steps angled further skyward, my panniers transforming into sacks of lead, quads burning and now I was truly spent. I had a nice view out onto the harbour that allowed me to count the foreign yachts anchored off, one of which would deliver me to virgin shores. Deep down the realisation of this next sailing leg symbolised the home turn of my journey. Lost in a pipe dream, I fell deeper into my sleep and sailed through the turquoise and limestone inlets of Thailand and Malaysia, dwelling on the deserted beaches where I might decide to jump ship. With these dreamy thoughts I was already filing away memories of cycling across the Great Indian Desert, camping out amongst the sand dunes, spying curious red turbans on sunset; shepherds popping up on tiered horizons in golden light... |
